FAMILY FRIENDLY ENTEPRPRISE CERTIFICATION

Companies and organizations are increasingly aware of their social responsibility and the effect they have on their
employees and other stakeholders with their management system. They are aware that employees, who are crucial in
the work process, are behind their success. Their happiness and loyalty are of key significance for successful
development and growth of the company. Effects of the CSR employee–management cooperation are not only short-
term, but they bring long term positive results.

The FFE certification is made by Ekvilib Inštitute from Slovenia and the methodology is based on the system
“European work & family audit”, developed by the German organization “Berufundfamilie”. We, as a Balance
Company CEE, are proud to be cooperation partner of Ekvilib Inštitute.
Family Friendly Enterprise certification is based on the CSR principle of employee – management cooperation with
an emphasis on work-life balance. It is a long-term consultation process, which provides positive effects that go
beyond reconciling work and private life of employees and clearly reflect competitive advantages with positive
economic effects for enterprise and long-term effects for the society. Over 250 companies and organizations enter
the certification, and certificate holders employ almost 100,000 employees.
To obtain the basic certificate (6 months after entering the certification process), an organization, with the help of a
FFE consultant, has to prepare a detailed roadmap for the implementation of measures and define criteria for
assessing the implementation of individual measures. Working groups in organizations are able to choose, according
to their needs, between measures divided into eight areas. All measures have to complement or go beyond the
organizational processes laid down by law. The roadmap has to be confirmed by the senior management and the
audit board of the Ekvilib Inštitute. Three years after obtaining the basic certificate the organization is granted a full
certificate on the basis of a detailed report on the implementation of every measure and a positive evaluation by an
auditor and the members of the audit board.

The certification basis is the Catalogue of measures, a document including all measures which are available to companies
joining the certification process. The catalogue is divided into 8 main areas:

  • Working hours
  • Work organization
  • Working location (place of work flexibility)
  • Information and communication policy
  • Management skills (management strategy/philosophy)
  • Human resources development
  • Payment structure and awards for achievements
  • Family services

Official list of measures is introduced to those enterprises/organizations in procedure, to secure professional and optimum
selection of measures, suitable for individual enterprise or organization. We believe that this is possible only through
consulting-audit process in the framework of obtaining “Family Friendly Enterprise” certificate.
